Sunday 3rd September - Broadmeadows to Edinburgh

Had developed a nasty cold by the morning and left the hostel in light drizzle which soon cleared. Climbed the first pass to Innerleithen, where I found a pub for a cooked breakfast after asking a chap who was also looking for somewhere for breakfast, who joined me. I then made good progress into and over the Moorfoot Hills, although it began drizzling again. The weather cleared on the descent giving fine views towards Edinburgh and the Firth of the Forth. Decided to take a small detour to see Roslynn Chapel (of De Vinci Code fame), not knowing exactly where it was I followed the signs directing me towards the village on some lovely Scottish rural roads, and my spirits were lifted by the sunny weather. Although expensive at £7 to get in there were some excelled stone masonry and very ornate interior decorations (the exterior was shrouded in scaffolding for roof repairs). I had a bit of quiet time to reflect on the journey and say some personal prayers of thanks there before heading into Edinburgh.

Stopped at Boots to stock up on cold remedies, before making my way into the city to the friends I was staying with on Marchmont Road, was pretty tired so all I could do was rest and send some emails home, even though there were some impressive sounding fireworks going off outside.
